This study was conducted as a preliminary study to evaluate these parameters between Arabica and Robusta from South Sumatra using the JIS M 8812 standard. Analysis found that the chemical composition of biochar from Robusta and Arabica waste, including ash content, volatile matter, and fixed carbon, did not show a significant difference, indicating similar chemical properties between the two types. Biochar production can be conducted together with Robusta and Arabica waste through carbonization. This finding will significantly improve biochar production efficiency in terms of time, cost, and production optimization in the coffee production area.

A comprehensive review of previous studies on coffee waste management in Indonesia over the past decade was conducted to identify various applications of coffee waste utilization, highlight the conversion of coffee waste into biochar, and emphasize the enhancement of the economic value of coffee waste biochar for rural development. This study is expected to provide insights and references for further advanced research and policy development for sustainable coffee waste management in Indonesia.
