研究紹介(About my Research)

Crop plants must encounter some adverse conditions during their growing period. The adverse conditions for plants are also known as stress. Among different stresses, high or low temperature, soil salinity, drought, heavy metal toxicity are the major concerns, because they limit the growth and yield of crops. Due to these stress, crop production can be reduced from 50 to 100%. Therefore, these stresses are potential threat for food security because world population is rising day by day and will reach 9 billion by 2048. Now, it is the time to think how we can ensure food for rising population specieally in developing countries. My research is trying to solve this problem by using phytoprotectants.

Phytoprotectants are chemicals that can enhance abiotic stress tolerance. Still researchers are searching for new chemicals that would be inexpensive, non-toxic, eco-friendly and more effective compared with existing chemicals. With my research I am trying to find out a chemical that can enhance multiple stress tolerance.
